Our original speculoos is not only a regional product from East Flanders, it was also officially recognized by VLAM as a local traditional product of Belgium.
A few years ago, our founder Leo Borms found the old speculoos recipe and notes of his great-grandfather Jozef. Baker Jozef and his baking partner August had founded La Confiance in the 1920's in Baasrode, a parish of Dendermonde, where La Confiance is located nowadays.
Inspired by this, we decided to bring this authentic family recipe from 1924 back to life. Of course we use modern equipment in our bakery, yet with respect for the great Belgian speculoos tradition. En only with the best organic ingrediënts of today's agriculture that we buy as much as possible at local farmers. Like this our speculoos meets all the criteria of a local traditional product imposed by VLAM.
